What does the foundation offer?

The foundation offers guided tours of its Los Angeles estate, annex pavilion and surrounding gardens, with more than 400 works of art on display. The collection includes works by Cézanne, Picasso, Kandinsky, Max Ernst, Joan Miró, René Magritte, Giacometti, Isamu Noguchi, Alexander Calder, Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein.
Frederick R. Weisman bought the estate in 1982 to showcase his 20th-century collection. Gordon B. Kaufmann designed the villa in the late 1920s; its period details include hand-painted ceilings, stucco work and wood-inlaid floors. Architect Franklin D. Israel designed the contemporary art pavilion, added in 1991 to accommodate larger works.
How do you book a tour?

Book in advance because tours are by appointment only. The foundation lists tours Monday through Friday at 10:30 a.m. and/or 1:30 p.m.; confirm an available time when you contact the foundation. The tour page does not give an admission price, so ask about the cost as part of your reservation.
For parties of more than 6, call the foundation to schedule: (310) 867-5772. For other inquiries, the tour email is tours@weismanfoundation.org. Tours take approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, and children under 12 are not permitted.
Where is the foundation, and how do you get there?

The foundation is at 265 North Carolwood Drive in Los Angeles. From The Crescent Hotel Beverly Hills, it’s about 1.7 miles away, with a listed walk of 43 minutes or a drive of 7 minutes.
Plan your arrival around the gate instructions: arrive no more than 5 minutes before your tour, stay in your vehicle until you are parked inside the gate, and don’t wait on the street.
Street parking for visitors is prohibited, and on-site spaces are limited, so the foundation asks parties to limit the number of cars. Visitors may not walk in or be dropped off unless arriving by taxi or limousine.
Enter at the gate marked by a bronze sculpture of a man. If the docent is not there to open it, press the intercom button. Mini-coaches longer than 28 feet will be turned away.
What access requirements should you check?

Check whether the tour’s physical demands suit your needs before reserving. The visit includes many stairs and considerable walking, and there are no elevators; the foundation warns that it may be too strenuous for people with walking or standing difficulties.
During the visit, stay with your docent; you cannot leave the tour partway through. Lock handbags, totes, briefcases and cell phones in your car, or turn off your phone’s ring. Photography is allowed outside only. The foundation reserves the right to cancel tours, including at the last minute.
What else can you plan in Beverly Hills?

Give the guided visit its own place in your schedule, then plan other stops separately rather than assuming they are part of the tour. For another garden visit, see the guide to Virginia Robinson Gardens tours and tickets. You can also use this Beverly Hills one-day itinerary to think through a broader day in the area.
Before you go: check the foundation’s official site before you go to confirm tour availability and current visitor instructions.
